It is with great pleasure that ISAD announces that Professor Anthony Cleare has been elected unopposed as the new President of ISAD.
He will formally take up his position during the ISAD London 2022 conference on 10th September 2022.
Anthony Cleare is Professor of Psychopharmacology and Affective Disorders at King’s College London, and a consultant psychiatrist in The National Affective Disorders Service at the Maudsley Hospital.
He qualified in medicine at Guy’s Hospital in London, before training in psychiatry at the Maudsley and Bethlem Royal Hospitals, winning the Laughlin Prize of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Senior Psychopharmacologist Prize of the British Association for Psychopharmacology. He was appointed consultant at the Maudsley in 1998 and Chair at the Institute of Psychiatry, KCL, in 2011.
He is a Principal Investigator in the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, which researches new tests, treatments and theories in mental health, and Co-Director of the Centre for Affective Disorders at KCL.
Having previously run an inpatient affective disorders unit, he now leads a tertiary referral outpatient service for affective disorders. He is also Consultant Advisor in Aviation Psychiatry to the Civil Aviation Authority.
The main focus of his research is to improve the understanding of aetiology, neurobiology and long-term outcome of treatment-resistant depression, including clinical trials, optimising clinical tools and developing biomarkers for depression.
He has over 450 peer reviewed and other publications, and contributes to many international guidelines, including leading the British Association for Psychopharmacology Evidence-Based Guidelines for treating depressive disorders.
